Colour Maisch

Colour Maisch is a Salt Lake City based artist, educator, and gallery owner. Colour spent her formative years in Southern California before returning to Utah to study Spanish and Political Science at the University of Utah, where she received a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Sculpture.

Colour spent her formative years in Southern California before returning to Utah to study Spanish and Political Science at the University of Utah, where she received a Master of Fine Arts in Ceramics and Sculpture. Colour has exhibited widely and has received several artists grants including a Utah Artist Fellowship. Her work is collected by various private and public institutions including Onna House, New York; Dennis Freedman, New York; and Salt Lake County Art Collection and the State of Utah. In 2023, she co-founded Material Art Gallery in Salt Lake City, an artist-run space focused on shifting the paradigm of how galleries and artists work together. Currently, Colour is exploring the art of balancing being a working artist, gallery owner, and full-time mom, all roles she loves, sees as interrelated, and that inform her life and practice.

  • If we look carefully, we notice that we are in constant exchange with the world at the smallest scale. Particles move between us and everything else—quietly, endlessly—binding us to place, to object, to each other. This understanding shapes how I see matter: not as inert, but as dynamic and evolving. Everything carries memory. Everything radiates presence. Objects, like bodies, absorb time. They hold traces of what they’ve witnessed. They remember.


    My practice is rooted in reverence for matter—especially what’s weathered, worn, or altered by invisible forces like gravity, heat, oxidation, and decay. These are the languages of time written into the surface of things. I see entropy not as breakdown, but as evolution, and I work to capture these transformations by preserving certain objects in resin or simply pausing them—framing their quiet existence. At its core, my work resists the urge to discard what no longer functions. Fracture becomes proof of movement, age a testament to life. I honor objects as vessels of memory, energy, and histories too subtle to name. Through this process, I invite a slower kind of attention—one that sees beyond utility and feels the fragile balance between presence and impermanence.
